The City is preparing for a major investment in Shawnee Mission Parkway, focusing on the stretch between K-7 and I-435. This critical corridor carries 30,000–40,000 vehicles each day, making it one of the most heavily traveled routes in the city.
This Mill and Overlay project will address aging pavement along both traffic lanes and shoulders, while also replacing any failing stormwater infrastructure. The goal is to extend the life of the roadway, improve safety, and enhance ride quality for everyone who travels this important corridor.
Scope:
- Length: approximately 3.75 miles
- Coverage: 32 lane miles
Improvements: Milling and resurfacing of all traffic lanes and shoulders, along with replacement of failed or aging stormwater pipes
Timeline:
- Start date: August 2025
- Completion date: December 2025 (tentative)
- Schedule may shift based on weather, availability, or underground conditions
What to expect:
- No full road closures are currently expected
- Lane closures will be required throughout construction
- Reduced speeds and traffic shifts may be in place during active work
The City will provide regular updates on progress, lane impacts, and any significant changes to the schedule.
